Ruderalis × Photoperiod Autos
A ruderalis by photoperiod auto is an autoflowering cannabis seed made by crossing Cannabis ruderalis, which flowers on age, with a photoperiod strain, which flowers on light. The offspring inherit day-neutral flowering from the ruderalis side and most of their aroma, size and cannabinoid content from the photoperiod side. This is the standard way autoflowering seeds have been made since the category began, and it is how the majority of autos sold anywhere are still produced.
The difference from a photoperiod-derived auto is generational distance. These lines have a recent ruderalis parent, so ruderalis traits are closer to the surface: shorter plants, quicker runs, and a chemistry that sits further from the photoperiod side of the cross. That trade is the point of the type rather than a fault in it.
Autos of this kind commonly finish in eight to twelve weeks from seed and stay well under a metre and a half.
What Is a Photoperiod-Derived Auto? sets out how the four seed types on this site relate to each other, and Autoflower vs Photoperiod Seeds covers the underlying difference between flowering on age and flowering on light. For lines closer to the wild plant, see Ruderalis Autos.
