What is a photoperiod seed?
A photoperiod plant flowers in response to the length of its dark period rather than its age. It keeps making leaves and branches while nights are short, and it starts to flower once nights get long enough. Indoors that change is made by the light schedule, outdoors it happens as the season turns.
How is a photoperiod different from an autoflower?
An autoflower starts flowering after a set number of weeks whatever the light does. A photoperiod waits for the light to change, so the length of its growth phase, and with it the final size of the plant, is decided by the grower. Photoperiods can also be kept as mother plants and cloned, which autoflowers cannot.
Who chooses photoperiod seeds?
People who want control over size and timing, who want to take cuttings from a plant worth keeping, or who are selecting parents for breeding work. The trade off is a longer run from seed and a dark period that has to stay unbroken.
